Ergon Energy supports cyclone recovery at Wujal Wujal

In response to inaccurate media reports that the community of Wujal Wujal in Far North Queensland has been without power since Cyclone Jasper crossed in December, Ergon Energy can confirm that network supply has been available since early January.

After significant damage to the electricity network and other infrastructure in the area, Ergon crews went to great lengths to repair, rebuild and restore this remote community’s power supply in early January.

Many homes were badly damaged and needed repairs before they could be safely reconnected to the electricity network.

Ergon crews have continued safely restoring power to individual properties as repairs are completed, including as recently as yesterday.

We are working closely with the Council and other services to get the community back on its feet after the natural disaster.

We are also involved in discussions about potential renewable energy projects in the community.
