Managing accounts for a deceased estate
If you’ve lost a loved one, we understand it’s a difficult time and are here to help.
When someone passes away who is an Ergon Energy Retail account holder, please get in touch and we'll step you through your options as quickly and easily as possible.
Let us know whether you’d like to keep using power at the property or not and we’ll take care of the rest.
Simply call us on 13 10 46.
Placing the account into the "Estate of"
Once we are notified about the deceased, we will need to place the account into the “Estate of”.
In order to do this, we will need to collect the following important information from you:
- Your full name
- Your contact number
- Your relationship with the deceased
- Full name of the deceased
- Address of the deceased
- Date of birth of the deceased
- Date of death
- Contact information for the executor, administrator, acting firm/solicitor if known.
Keeping the power on
If you’re a joint account holder and want to keep using power at the property, we can update the account to be solely in your name.
Otherwise, we can open a new account in your name and finalise the previous account.
Accounts held solely in the name of the deceased as the 'Estate of' can only remain open if we have been provided with the following:
- Death Certificate
- A letter from the Executor/Administrator confirming they act for the estate of the deceased.
Switching the power off
Where the power supply will no longer be required, we can close the account and issue a final bill.
