When you request a new connection to the electricity network or make changes to your existing connection, you may need a new smart meter.
Timeframes for meter installations
Guidelines on timeframes for installing smart meters have been introduced to give you greater visibility and certainty around when installations can be completed.
Exact timeframes for installing smart meters may vary according to the complexities of the job, so in some cases an alternate install date must be negotiated.

New connection | New smart meter allocated for a new network connection. | Within 6 business days from when we are advised that the network connection is complete, unless an alternate date has been agreed with the customer. |
Meter upgrade | Functioning meter replaced with new smart meter to accommodate changes to tariffs or connected equipment. | Within 15 business days from when we receive the customer’s meter change request, unless an alternate date has been agreed with the customer. Any connection changes required must also be completed within this timeframe, unless an alternate date has been agreed with the customer and the electricity distributor. |
These guidelines apply only to customers using up to 100 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity per year.
